Meet Dr. Strom

Amanda Strom, O.D. is an optometrist at Stiles Eyecare Excellence, serving patients in Overland Park Dr. Strom focuses on cataract evaluations and glaucoma diagnosis and treatment.

Dr. Strom completed her doctoral program in optometry from the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 2004. Her interest in working specifically on ocular and medical diseases of the eye, led her to immediately apply for a residency program, which, at the time, fewer than 10% of optometrists pursued. She completed her residency in hospital-based primary care, ocular disease, and low vision rehabilitation in Chicago at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center and the Hines VA Blind Rehabilitation Center. That same year she successfully passed the Advanced Competency in Medical Optometry Examination offered to optometrists that complete VA residencies.

By presenting clinical case reports and sitting for an oral examination, she earned her Fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry the following year and has been an active member of the Academy since.

Upon returning to the Kansas City area, Dr. Strom continued providing primary care and medical optometric eye examinations within an ophthalmology practice. She pursued membership in the American Board of Optometry with an emphasis in ocular disease management and soon earned her Diplomate status. She also began assisting the National Board of Examiner’s in Optometry as a clinical examiner for graduating optometrists who were attempting to pass their final national board exam—a fun task that involved supervising and scoring the candidates.

Dr. Strom was thrilled to join Drs. Stiles and Stechschulte in 2013, to focus on cataract evaluations and glaucoma diagnosis and treatment. She continues to promote healthy vision by assisting in numerous research studies as a sub-investigator at SEE Glaucoma Institute. She also enjoys providing continuing education lectures for her optometric colleagues and spending extra time in the examination room with her patients who have glaucoma discussing their particular diagnosis and clinical course.

An Overland Park native, Dr. Strom and her husband, Jeremy, enjoy spending time with their three busy boys, Coleman, Anderson, and Lewis, and their extended family. She enjoys running, skiing, gardening, and rooting for the Jayhawks (her alma mater), the Royals, and the Broncos (“Yes, that is my husband and John Elway’s fault.”) Dr. Strom especially enjoys volunteering at her sons’ schools in numerous capacities and as an elected member to the Site Based Leadership Council. She also serves on the Board of Directors at Heartland Therapeutic Riding Center.
